The 12 weeks of treatment was observed a reduction in serum cholesterol of 18.3%, LDL cholesterol by 23% and an increase in HDL cholesterol of 42% in the group treated with 6 Caigua capsules. In cases of high cholesterol treatment with 6 capsules of Caigua normalized the levels of serum cholesterol in 82% of cases; in the same way for cases of hypercholesterolemia LDL.

Serum triglycerides are also significantly reduced by the use of the dehydrated Caigua. In addition effects anti-inflammatory and analgesic, attributed to him while that the seed of the plant is attributed antihypertensive effects. It is considered a non-toxic product.

A recent study made by the National University of San Marcos has found that Maca improves the antioxidant defenses level and energizing the memory and learning capacities in animals

Maca (“Lepidium meyenii Walp“), one of the most famous Andean roots in the world for its revitalizing properties also improve learning and memory, according to a study at the Research Center of Biochemistry and Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine of the National University of San Marcos (San Marcos).

Dr. Raquel Oré Sifuentes, responsible for the research, said that in reaching this conclusion, the effect of energizing  maca on memory and learning in animals, through biochemical tests.

“Weanling rats that had an average of 21 days old were given for 15 days, yellow maca aqueous extract at doses ranging from 0.4 mg, 0.8 mg and 1.2 mg per gram of weight, “she explained.

To ensure that these animals consumed precise doses, the Maca Extract was given by orogastric tube, said the head of research “Effect of aqueous extract of maca on cognitive function in weanling rats”, which was also exposed at the Havana International Conference ORP 2009, in Cuba.

The Test of Morris

After the consumption of this product coming from Carhuamayo (Junín), rodents were tested on an evaluation known in the scientific community as examining spatial learning Morris water test.

“The average water temperature was 27 ° C, and for three days was analyzed the issue of learning and one day the memory,” she said.

The results found were valuable, especially in the aspect of memory, because those rats that consumed higher doses of maca extract had a better response, said Dr. Rachel Oré, who since 2002 is involved with the study of this root.

“Animals that consumed higher doses of Maca extract found the Morris’ test platform in better time – much faster” she said.

On top of that result, after culminating the research, the brain was removed from the animals and found that several of them had improved antioxidant defenses, after verifying the inhibition of the enzyme butyrylcholinesterase, which would improve the cognitive function.

Oranges provide 500 to 4000 parts per million of vitamin C or ascorbic acid while Acerola has a range of 16,000 to 172,000 parts per million of ascorbic acids. Many people ignore or denial of the importance of drinking water, at least three liters a day.

A consultant urological surgeon at Southampton General Hospital, Dr. Bhaskar Somani, said to the DailyMail a lack of awareness about the dangers of dehydration was responsible for an annual increase in renal stone admissions, including among young people in their twenties.

‘The number of people admitted to hospital suffering severe pain and discomfort due to kidney stones is increasing by between 5 per cent and 10 per cent every year,’ he said.

Over the past decade, the number of hospital admissions for renal stones in the UK rose by 63 per cent to more than 80,000 and there is no sign of these numbers letting up.’ Kidney stones develop when crystals of salt gather into lumps and are not flushed out of the body due to a lack of adequate hydration, often lodging in the urinary system’s tubes. They can cause severe abdominal and groin pain which, in many cases, can only be corrected through surgery.

The condition affects about 10 to 20 per cent of men and 3 to 5 per cent of women between the ages of 30 and 60. At Southampton General Hospital, the number of patients admitted to hospital every month has almost doubled – a trend Mr Somani said would continue without intervention. ‘The only way to drive this down is to drive home the message that healthy lifestyle, diet and fluid intake is the best way to prevent the development and recurrence of stones,’ he said.

‘With evidence that 50 per cent of patients treated are likely to have a recurrence within ten years, largely due to complacency around hydration within a few years of having surgery, we know we face an uphill battle to change the national mindset, but we must make a start.’ Mr Somani said all adults should aim to drink between two to three litres of water a day, while former stone patients should maintain a daily intake upwards of three litres to avoid recurrence. He has also called for the introduction of a screening programme for all high risk patients – those with diabetes, gout or inflammatory bowel disease – and regular monitoring of people who suffered their first incidence of stones under the age of 25.
